The Wimbledon Open Championship has finally reached its climax. After two weeks of surprises and jaw-dropping upsets, the women's singles tournament has come down to only two competitors, and one of them will secure her place in history as the 2013 Wimbledon Open champion.
Marion Bartoli and Sabine Lisicki each overcame great odds and took their game to another level to get to this stage. Despite the absence of women's tennis stars such as Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka and Serena Williams, Saturday's championship will surely produce the excitement and the drama that we saw on Center Court of All-England Tennis Club throughout the years.
Bartoli, the ever feisty Frenchwoman, will have another chance to win her first Grand Slam title after she came short in the 2007 Wimbledon Open, losing to Venus Williams in the finals. Bartoli has come a long way in this tournament as she beat some of the brightest up-and-coming players such as American Sloane Stephen in the quarterfinal and Kirsten Flipkens in the semis.
On the other hand, Lisicki transformed from Tour wanderer to a full-fledged star in this Wimbledon following her big victory against Serena Williams in the fourth round and an epic three-set win against Agnieszka Radwańska in the semis.
Lisicki has a slight advantage over Bartoli heading into their championship clash, leading 3-1 in their head-to-head to clash. Lisicki has been undefeated in their last three meeting but Bartoli's lone victory over the German took place in the first round of the Wimbledon Open 2008.
