There's not much good news concerning Android 4.2.2 for Galaxy Note owners. In fact, recent delays and sales problems mar the original phablet's chances of getting Android 4.2.2 anytime soon.
Android 4.2.2 was supposed to hit Galaxy S3s in June, but it became increasingly obvious that the Android update would be taking its sweet time. Instead, it became reported that the upgrade was delayed due to problems in porting over the Galaxy S4 TouchWiz interface. Due to the issues, the new release time frame for the Galaxy S3 Android 4.2.2 update was pushed back to July or August.
Why does the Galaxy S3's Android 4.2.2 update matter for the Galaxy Note? Because Samsung works its way backwards through its lineup when it updates older devices. The Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 both receive Android updates sooner than the Galaxy S2 or Galaxy Note. If the Galaxy S3 has to wait, you can bet the Galaxy Note has to wait even longer.
New rumors, however, point to Samsung withholding Android 4.2.2 from the Galaxy S3 until November in order to entice buyers to pick up a newer Galaxy S4. The Galaxy S4 runs Android 4.2.2, and despite a strong start, has slowed down in sales significantly, possibly causing Samsung to worry that many would pick a cheaper Galaxy S3 running Android 4.2.2 over the Galaxy S4. However, Samsung could potentially offset this by waiting until Android 5.0 can be pushed out the Galaxy S4, and then bumping the Galaxy S3 up to Android 4.2.2.
Remember that none of this has been confirmed or commented on by Samsung, so this all needs to be taken with a healthy dose of salt.
Still, if the narrative lines up, the Galaxy Note might not see Android 4.2.2 until the end of this year, or even next year. Android 4.2.2 is expected to be the last Android firmware update Samsung releases for the device.
