HTC looks to be getting into the premium "phablet" business this year, if leaks from a reliable source are correct. Code-named the T6, rumors of a 5.9-inch HTC handset are hitting the web, and we've got some rumored specs to show you.
With the HTC One finally getting a wide release on T-Mobile and soon coming to Verizon, the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer may be expanding its line up of new devices before the end of the year, and this time it's a tablet/phone mix, or "phablet." The rumors come from a usually reliable source on all things HTC, the Twitter user @evleaks.
If the details from @evleaks are true, these are the specifications you can expect from the new phablet from HTC. It will have a pretty roaring processor, a 2.3GHz quad core Snapdragon 800 powering the device, supported by 2GB RAM. The display will be a full HD 5.9-inch behemoth, dwarfing the screen size of the Samsung Galaxy Note II.
The battery will be larger to fit the rest of the device, at 3300 mAh, and theunlockr is reporting the phone will also employ a "power jacket." One of those battery-boosting cases will pump up the battery with an additional 1250 mAh. The supposed storage on the T6 is a relatively tiny 16GB, but it also features a microSD slot—something which HTC's current line up like the One doesn't have, as noted by Engadget. This may be a sign that the leaks are not completely reliable, or it may be a design strategy to allow for expandable storage on such a large device.
The T6 is supposed to be running the upcoming Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie operating system and will feature the same "Ultrapixel" camera technology that the HTC One employs. Other interesting features may include embedded biometrics like a fingerprint reader and a stylus, which is something that all phablets need. There are no images or renders yet, but supposedly, the T6 will look similar to an oversized HTC One, and has a launch window of late-summer or fall.
But with any rumors, even ones sourced from @evleaks, take this with a grain of salt and a bit of patience. We'll keep you updated as more information comes along, but if anything so far about the T6 is true, it sounds like an exciting edition that may help bring the stumbling HTC back around to the tech world's good graces.
