Jeremy Lin and Chandler Parsons' Thoughts On NBA Playoffs 2013; [POLL] Who Will Win Rockets vs. OKC Thunder 1st Round Series?
What will it take for the Houston Rockets to win the Championship? A lot, says sophomore guard Jeremy Lin; but it won't stop them from achieving it.
The Rockets is essentially a young team. Although the franchise has been competing in the league for over 56 years, this year's roster is built upon the core of young and less experienced players. Lin, together with four other teammates-Chandler Parsons, Patrick Beverley, Terrence Jones and Greg Smith-are just about to have their first ever Playoff game in their respective careers.
Even James Harden, who is expected to lead the team, has only had 41 playoff games in his three-year career. With Omer Asik, Carlos Delfino and Francisco Garcia-who each have played in the playoffs-the team would only have played a combined 106 post-season games. A far cry from Tim Duncan's lone 190 career playoff games-the most this season.
However, it seems like the team is banking on the fact that they're young. The Rockets' site readily welcomes guests with a Playoff banner ascribing the words "Younger. Faster. Fearless." The inexperience doesn't throw them off one bit. Not even when they're up against last year's runner-up-and current Western Conference first seed-Oklahoma City Thunder.
"We're young," shared second-year forward, Parsons, in a report by The Houston Chronicle. "We're aggressive. We're just going to go out there and play our game. I don't think any previous seasons would determine how we're going to do this year...Obviously, experience helps. [But] I don't think it's a big deal."
Lin also said that, while the odds seemed to be against them this season, he knew the team could brave the challenges and make it pass the hurdles. The Harvard standout now looks forward to making his first Playoff appearance, after failing to make it with the Knicks last year due to a knee injury.
"Definitely, I want to experience it," shared the Rockets guard. "Everyone wants to experience it. Who wouldn't want it? Definitely for me, it's something I'm looking forward to."
As for what to expect come game time, the Asian-American athlete said the atmosphere, the intensity and the physicality will play a big role on court. But not to let the Rockets fans worry, he assured that the team is ready for anything.
"It's one of those things I can't really prepare as well because I've never experience it," he explained. "But for me, it's like every rookie. You go into your rookie season hoping to do really well, you don't know what to expect, but you're hoping for the best and you're working hard to give yourself the best opportunity. That's what I'm doing and we're doing as a team."
Greg Smith is also optimistic about his first post-season stint.
"It's going to be tough, but I'm very prepared for it. I'm not focused on just being in the playoffs. Our focus is on going out there to win. I think we're going to surprise a lot of people that think we're going to lose in the first round. It will be a great experience."
