While the Samsung Galaxy S3 continues to sell more devices, even compared to the iPhone 5, Nokia is looking to gain some ground with their Lumia 920.
Could the Lumia 920 take the spotlight from the Galaxy S3?
The Northern Voices Online reported the Lumia 920 is built "with great specs and capabilities that will make it a great handset," and could be a "severe threat" to the Galaxy S3.
Features on the Lumia 920 include a 4.5-inch PureMotion HD+ display, Snapdragon S4 chipset, 32GB of internal storage, 1GB RAM, Bluetooth, NFC, Wi-Fi, and 4G LTE, to name a few.
As for carriers, it will be exclusive for AT&T.
Features on the Galaxy S3 include a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD display, Exynos 4412 1.4GHz quad core processor, internal storage of 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC, and 4G LTE, to name a few.
Carriers for the Galaxy S3 include the top five US mobile carriers: AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, and U.S. Cellular.
Let's see what reviewers are favoring:
Pop Herald's Jean Xiam Sun have her thoughts on the two devices.
When it comes to the operating system, the Android Ice Cream sandwich runs on the Galaxy S3 while the Lumia 920 will have Windows Phone 8. For Sun, the app offerings are "limited" for the Windows Phone 8, while the Android offers more.
"If you're not into apps, the Lumia 920 is a good choice, but if you love Instagram and other popular apps, the Galaxy S3 is the clear choice."
However, she gave the Lumia 920 a better review when it came to the camera, noting the 8.7-megapixel rear-facing camera compared to the Galaxy S3's eight-megapixels.
PhonesReview believe both devices have plenty to offer.
When making the comparison, they noted the internal storage options. The Lumia 920 only offers 32GB while the Galaxy S3 offers 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB.
"...so the Galaxy S3 is ahead on this score."
PhonesReview also commented on the camera. While calling the Galaxy S3's camera "impressive," they note the Lumia's camera "has been widely praised and the PureView technology has really come up with the goods for excellent photos and videos."
The International Business Times'(IBT) review stated the Galaxy S3 "remained superior" compared to the Lumia 920.
IBT stated both smartphones have "cool designs" but noted the Lumia 920's battery is only 2,000mAh and is "belittled" by the Galaxy S3's 2,100mAh.
Auto-o-Mobile 's review stated the two handsets are innovative.
When it comes to the display, "The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a superb display but the PureMotion HD+ of the Lumia is sharper, brighter and more responsive."
But, similar to PhonesReview, the internal storage options arise, in favor of the Galax S3.
They added, the Lumia 920's "strongest points" are the "luxurious design, a better rear-camera which beats any other smartphone on the market when it comes to taking low light shots and of course that display."
"The Nokia Lumia 920 does have its merits, however it probably won't sell as well as the Samsung Galaxy S3 did solely because of its lesser known WP8 operating system. It will be the best Windows phone that you can get though."
TechThirsty's Aiswarya Gopan gave the Galaxy S3 the advantage for its quad core processor compared to the Lumia 920's dual core. In addition, the better battery and bigger screen size gave the Samsung device another couple highlights.
As for the Lumia 920, TechThirsty reported the better camera and higher pixel density and resolution as the positives.
Another advantage for the Nokia smartphone is the faster download and upload speeds, "Nokia's advanced technology allows the Lumia 920 to download data at a maximum speed of 100MBits/sec against the Galaxy S3's 21MBits/sec. Even upload speeds are significantly faster on the former - 50MBits/sec against the latter's 3MBits/sec."
The reviews are so far mixed. Both smartphone devices are different outside of the wireless connectivity and protection case features.
