The Legend of Zelda will be coming to the 3DS with A Link Between Worlds on Nov. 22, but many fans are looking forward to the promised Wii U Legend of Zelda game that Nintendo is working on. Speaking to Mashable, series producer Eiji Aonuma refused to say anything about the upcoming title, but promised "I'll say more at E3 2014."
While some fans may be disappointed that Nintendo is remaining tight-lipped about the Wii U Legend of Zelda until E3, which is scheduled June 10 through June 12, considering the amount of time Nintendo has had to work on the game, perhaps the company will reveal the game and give a 2014 release date during E3.
One thing that is certain about the Wii U Zelda game is that the 3DS A Link Between Worlds will influence the gameplay of the console Zelda game, according to Aonuma. While previous Zelda games had players finding items in one dungeon that will help them with the next dungeon they encounter, both A Link Between Worlds and the Wii U game will give players the ability to buy every special item in any order they choose right at the beginning of the game. Aonuma explained to IGN that this move is to help the series become less linear and offer players a chance to explore the world more freely:
"What I wanted to do was make a game where you could get stuck and get lost and you'd have to think about things, but you'd have fun doing that. Obviously, If you just get stuck and stay stuck, that's not fun. If you get lost and stay lost, that's not fun. But if there's a way out that you're able to get to, that's where I think the fun of a Zelda game lies...In previous Zelda games, we've created the scenarios and linked them together in a line. But ultimately that becomes super linear. I think that's not really that much fun. What I wanted to do with this new game, A Link Between Worlds, is to be able to give players lots of choices and let them be able to think about things for themselves."
Aonuma did state that dungeons will be split into easy and advanced dungeons in A Link Between Worlds, so that there will be some sort of progression in the game. In addition, Aonuma explained that some items for clearing dungeons are harder to use than others:
"As far as the items themselves, even though you have the items from the beginning, some of them are more difficult to use. Some of them will take more practice. I think that's where you'll find the differences in difficulty showing up. You might find a dungeon that requires you to use an item that you maybe haven't used a lot yet, so you have to train yourself in order to overcome something."
