Samsung Galaxy Nexus
Samsung Galaxy Nexus owners were recently dealt a major blow when Google announced it would be stopping support for the device since its 18-month update cycle was up, meaning no official Android 4.4 KitKat firmware would land on the phone. Frustrated Galaxy Nexus owners have now taken to the Internet and started a petition in hopes of getting the search giant to change its mind.
Sorry Samsung Galaxy Nexus owners: it's the end of the line. Google announced and released the new Android 4.4 KitKat operating system Thursday, and in the process, the Mountain View search giant confirmed it will no longer update the Galaxy Nexus.
The T-Mobile version of the Google Nexus 4 is getting a mysterious security update over the air (OTA), starting Tuesday. According to PhoneArena, the T-Mobile handset will be getting notifications to download a less than 2MB software package, which is listed under the version number JWR66Y. If you have rooted your Google Nexus 4, you won't be getting the update.
Google's Android 4.3 announcement has sent many developers and manufacturers rushing back to the coding table in order to whip up a new batch of firmwares to roll out. Google Nexus devices that run AOSP such as the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 are all already receiving Android 4.3, and Google has even released factory images for all the firmwares - well almost all. Verizon's Galaxy Nexus variant seems to have been left out.
