Tim Tebow going to the Chicago Bears has been a hot topic in the NFL rumor mill lately and as the tainted quarterback has yet to find a new home, the chatter only continues to grow.
The Tebow-Chicago theory has grown to be even more enticing after the Bears hired former New York Jets quarterback coach Matt Cavanaugh---adding another connection that can be traced to the orphaned quarterback.
Cavanaugh's new spot in Chicago comes after being with the Jets organization since 2009, spending this past season working as Tebow's position coach.
The rumor first started when the Bears hired head coach Marc Trestman who has worked with Tebow in the past preparing him for the NFL draft in 2010. Trestman was also quoted saying good things about Tebow in the past, fueling the gossip fire even more.
"If you're a coach and you love coaching quarterbacks, you'd love the opportunity to develop Tim Tebow," Trestman said back in 2010.
And maybe that is what the new coach intends to do.
But in the other direction, the new quarterback coach might also be aware of Tebow's weaknesses---decreasing any chance of him playing backup to current starting Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.
And there is yet another link between Tebow and the Chicago Bears.
Trestman's former Canadian football team, the Montreal Alouettes, own Tebow's CFL rights, according to sports site SBNation.
So is it possible that the smeared signal-caller could end up playing for our Canuck neighbors up North?
Alouettes general manager Jim Popp isn't so sure.
"I'm no different from anyone else. Not until we see Tim Tebow would you ever know if he can play for you," Popp said in an interview with SBNation. "I don't know if he can play in the Canadian Football League in our game either."
The Chicago theory may prove just to be nonsensical gossip, but you can't help but notice all the Tebow-Bears connections.
It is clear, however, that Tebow dons the NFL scarlet letter these days as the Jets are looking to dump him and the Jacksonville Jaguars clearly stated that they want nothing to do with him.
Trestman has yet to comment on the Tebow debacle.
