The M7, HTC's next flagship smartphone, is still in development. Will it be HTC's answer to the Samsung Galaxy S3? Let's compare the two.
As we've reported before, the M7 is the newest device from HTC which is rumored to be unveiled in about a month, starting on February 25th, at the Mobile World Congress, which is Barcelona's gadget showcase. Meanwhile the Samsung Galaxy S3 is doing pretty well, recently topping $40 million in sales after being on the market for only about six months.
The Galaxy S3's display measures 4.8 inches with a resolution of 1280x720. The M7 was rumored to beat the Galaxy S3's display with a 5 inch screen, but it now looks like it will be 4.7 inches, slightly smaller than the Galaxy S3. However, the M7's screen will be capable of full high definition output, at 1080p. So the HTC M7 edges out the Galaxy S3 as far as displays go, but doesn't exactly blow the slightly older, and undoubtedly to-be cheaper, Galaxy S3 out of the water.
As far as speed goes, the Galaxy S3 has 2GB of RAM and a 1.5GHz dual-core processor here in the United States. The HTC M7 has a 1.7 GHz quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM, and it will likely be running a new version of HTC Sense - possibly Sense 5 - boosting interface response and making it seem even more superior in speed to the Galaxy S3 than it already is.
The HTC M7 will best the Galaxy S3 as far as cameras go, as well. The Galaxy S3 comes with two cameras, a 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera (capable of 720p resolution) and an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p video. The M7 will probably have a 2 megapixel front-facing camera, but with full 1080 HD capability, and the rear-facing camera is rumored to match the emerging industry standard of 13 megapixels 1080 HD.
The M7 will come with the newest version of Android Jelly Bean, 4.2, which is newer than the Galaxy S3's operating system. But will the M7 have that cool tap-to-share feature, or anything comparable? And will the faster processor and better camera make it worth the new-phone price? We'll have to wait and see, so make sure to check back with us.
