Sony's newest smartphone, the soon-to-be-released Xperia Z was quite a hit at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this year. In fact, according to Android Authority, the Xperia Z was the most talked about product, claiming a whopping 44 percent of all social media mentions out of the top five most popular products (the next most talked about gadget was only in the 20s).
But this handsome new smartphone has a lot going for it beyond looks. Here are the specs on the Xperia Z that we know right now. First, the scratch-resistant, shatter-proof display will be a full 5 inches, running at a peak 1080p HD resolution. Inside, it'll have a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor with 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage and up to 32 GB of additional room through an SD card.
Like many of this year's upcoming smartphones, the Xperia Z will have a 2 megapixel front camera and a 13 megapixel rear camera, capable of 16x digital zoom. It'll run the slightly older Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.
But one of the coolest, and most talked about, features of this new phone has nothing to do with processor speed or megapixels. It's that this phone is highly water resistant. And by highly, we mean submersion-quality. Check out this dunk test performed at CES 2013.
Right now, according to Tech Radar, rumors have the Xperia Z's release date in the United Kingdom as either the end of February or March 1st. That means that it should be hitting gadget showrooms in the United States soon after that, but there's no definite date on that yet. Make sure to check back with us here for more details as they arise.
