"Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance" is one of the most hotly anticipated titles coming out next month. When it was announced, numerous fans questioned whether a "Metal Gear" title that stripped away its espionage roots and turned into a full-fledged action title would actually work.
Konami and Platinum Games have worked hard to prove the concept's ingenuity and have recently revealed a new trailer to showcase the game's action. The seven-minute trailer is called "Jack the Ripper" and features protagonist Raiden driving on the highway. He is suddenly attacked by police forces, tipping off a heavy action sequence.
Series creator Hideo Kojima is overseeing the creation of the title while Platinum games, famous for the "Bayonetta" series, is developing the title for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The title is slated for a February 19, 2013 release date. The demo for the title will be launched next week on Jan. 22 and will feature three stages that will give players plenty of opportunities to try out the new sword-based combat system. According to Cinemablend, the demo was previously featured in the "Zone of Enders Collection" and a full video of the demo has been made available on YouTube.
Early opinions on the game have generally been positive. Joystiq's Mike Schramm states that "So far Rising is a stellar action title. Both Platinum and Kojima Productions have clearly committed their own special talents to the title, and though the spin-off's origins were reportedly rough going, the end result is a very smooth mix of the Metal Gear franchise and Platinum's action expertise."
