The Nokia Lumia 920 finally launched in India this past Friday for Rs. 38,199, according to a recent India Today report. Nokia's Windows 8 equipped smartphone was previously rumored to launch on January 15 prior to the company's official press conference in Mumbai and Delhi last Thursday. As it turns out, the price predictions of Rs 38,000-40,000 were spot on.
The handset, which originally released in the U.S. on November 11, is currently the third best-selling AT&T cellular device based on information from Channel Partners Online (via WMPoweruser)
The Nokia Lumia 920 features a dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB RAM, a 4.5-inch screen, complimented by both an 8.7-megapixel camera and a 'PureView' Camera. The Lumia 820 sports a slightly smaller 4.3-inch display, but shares an identical processor. With an 8-megapixel camera and 1GB RAM, the flagship's little brother is directed towards more budget-conscious users.
The critical reception has been mostly positive, although most reviewers lament the absence of apps in the Windows 8 marketplace. The Verge's review largely reflects the consensus that "Many of the frustrations we used to have in Windows Phone are now gone with this latest version, and Nokia has given the OS a very good stage with the Lumia 920. The speed and multitasking improvements, connections to Xbox and SkyDrive, and Start Screen experience are all much better, but there's still a critical lack of apps and they too often feel as though they're not as good as what's on other platforms."
At CES 2013, Microsoft Senior Product Manager Greg Sullivan had a chance to respond to the outcry for a thriving app ecosystem, and assured consumers that "Microsoft understands the value of apps. But as we thought about the smartphone, we said let's do something where the app is not the high order bit. Let's do a smartphone where the focus is you...Let's crate an experience that puts you at the center."
