It's been talked about for quite some time now, but it looks like we finally have a release date for the Samsung Galaxy S2 Android Jelly Bean update. According to a new report, the update should begin rolling out in February.
A Samsung spokesperson confirmed to CNET that the Android Jelly Bean update will release next month in Singapore. The report fails to mention any other region, and, as usual, those with carrier-locked Galaxy S2s will have to wait even longer.
Samsung Korea recently put up a webpage detailing the Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean update, but later pulled it down. Luckily, Samsung-centric website SamMobile was able to grab a screenshot and post the nitty gritty details.
SamMobile states that the update will only be available through Samsung's KIES software and will take a whole hour to install. Jelly Bean will also repartition the Galaxy S2's internal memory, decreasing it from 12GB to 11GB.
Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S2 will improve the operating system's fluidity and performance due to Project Butter. It will also introduce a Siri-like voice assistant from Google named Google Now. Samsung is also adding new camera functions and pre-loading the Help, Google+, Play Book, Play Movie, and +Talk apps.
Samsung also revealed the Galaxy S2 Plus handset just a few days ago. The Galaxy S2 Plus is almost identical to the Galaxy S2 in every respect except that it ships with Android Jelly Bean pre-installed.
