While most Android devices are still running on Gingerbread, Samsung has been making an aggressive effort to get its mobile devices running Android Jelly Bean. Reports and readers now indicate that U.S. owners of the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 are the latest recipients of Jelly Bean.
The Jelly Bean update is available for download OTA or through Samsung's KIES software and applies to models GT-P5113 (Galaxy Tab 10.1) and GT-P3113 (Galaxy Tab 2 7.0). The 311MB update has been available in the United Kingdom for a while, and it looks like it's finally made its way to the United States.
The update includes all the usual Jelly Bean goodness. It not only introduces Google Now, a voice assistant that can do everything from telling you the the weather to how long your morning commute will take, it also improves system performance. Project Butter increases the frame rate and allocates system resources in a more efficient manner to maximize the Android interface's fluidity.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 comes with a 1.0GHz dual-core processor, a 3-megapixel rear-facing camera, and a VGA front cam. The tablet also comes equipped with Wi-Fi capabilities and 16GB storage. The SD slot allows for an extra 32GB. You can pick up the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 for $350.
It's smaller cousin, the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 can be picked up for only $200. For that price, buyers get a 1.0GHz dual-core processor, a 3-megapixel rear camera, and 8GB of onboard memory with an SD slot that allows for 32GB extra memory.
