The PS3 version of Skyrim has drawn its fair share of controversy, but it's hard to argue that Bethesda's future slate of new DLC releases isn't exciting.
Just a month ago, three separate rumors on the next batch of content emerged. The first two, which originated on Reddit, suggested that the DLC would either delve into the history of the extinct Dwemer race or focus on "choosing a new king of Skyrim and stomping out the Thalmor," according to an Official Xbox Magazine report. Ricardo Gonzalez, a programmer for the developer, responded to fans by writing: "Bethesda dev here. This is a mixture of half-truths gleaned from interviews and outright falsehoods. Best to just move on."
As for the more substantial rumor, OXM rooted out a Bethesda trademark filing for a downloadable piece of software entitled 'Redguard.' In Elder Scrolls fiction, the Redguard are a faction of warriors who have appeared in multiple entries to the series. The trademark was first filed in March 2011, but was then renewed in August 2012. So far, there has been no official response to speculation aside from Studio VP Peter Hines' refusal to comment on rumors.
Skyrim has released three DLC packs since the game launched, including Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn. PS3 fans have yet to gain access to any of them; however, the developer promises to get Dragonborn out the door in the nebulous timeframe of early 2013. The fate of upcoming content post-Dragonborn on the PS3 is unknown, but optimistically Bethesda will have ironed out the technical kinks that held back the release of prior packs.
