Windows 8 Dropbox App Now Available in Windows Store; Limited Features, Can't Upload Files

Cloud storage is still expanding and now available for the Windows 8 and Windows RT.

Microsoft has added the Dropbox app for its Windows users, allowing people to browse through saved files, pictures, videos, and create and edit folders. However, users will not be able to upload new files under the Dropbox app, as stated by PC World.

There are additional changes with the Dropbox app, such as how to access a file.

"Once you've clicked on a file it is saved locally on your device, but you'll have to use Dropbox's app to access the file and not Windows Explorer," noted PC World. "Since this is a Windows 8 app and not a desktop PC app, the location of Dropbox saved files is obscured in the AppData hidden folder."

An addition to the app is Search Charm, you can search for specific files by name or extension. As CNET noted, "You can right-click a file, open the Share Charm, and share the file via e-mail or a social network. And you can open, edit, and save Microsoft Office documents and other types of editable files stored on Dropbox. But that's about it."

It is highly recommended to download the Dropbox desktop application as well to experience the full service of Dropbox since the app for Windows 8 is limited.

Microsoft originally announced the Dropbox deal on Oct. 30, for Windows 8 but has expanded to Windows RT users.
