Apple recently debuted a smaller, cheaper iPad mini, but it might not be too long before the Cupertino-based company releases another full-sized iPad. Recent reports indicate the iPad 5 could be releasing around March 2013 and be sporting a design more in line with the iPad mini's.

Website Macotakara (via 9to5Mac) claims to have gotten an insider tip that Apple will be releasing a thinner iPad in March.

"According to my inside source, iPad(5th) may be released in March, 2013. Source told that, design of this new iPad will be like iPad mini in detail, and be thinner and lightweight. (The expectation comes to have a small 4mm in height, 17mm in width, depth 2mm)," Macotakara writes.

Like most insider leaks, this one hasn't been confirmed by Apple, so remember to take it with a grain of salt. It's unlikely the dimensions given are Apple's finalized design, but a thinner iPad makes sense given that electronics devices rarely get bulkier.

The iPad 5 is also expected to have a smaller bezel, which would make its appearance closer to that of the iPad mini.

A report from DigiTimes indicates that Apple is currently discussing utilizing Sharp's IGZO display in next-generation iPhones and iPads.

The iPad should also launch with the latest version of iOS, possibly iOS 7, which has been spotted being tested.

A March 2013 release means that the iPad 5 would launch five months after the iPad 4 did in November. In previous years Apple has mostly stuck to one iPad a year, but recent reports indicate Apple is looking to speed up its production cycle in order to release more products per year. A new iPhone and iPad mini are also expected to release before summer 2013 kicks off.
