The next generation of consoles are expected to bring better graphics and more powerful hardware to the table, but it's their connectivity and innovation that will really shape the future of home console video games. Microsoft's Kinect 2.0 is a technology that has the potential to do just that, and it looks like games are already being developed for it.

According to website Digital Trends, famed game studio Rare Ltd., known for titles such as Banjo Kazooie and GoldenEye, is looking for someone to "push the boundaries of the Kinect hardware with our exciting new project (Kinect Sports)." Rare is also looking for engineers to work on Perfect Dark 3 and a new IP.

There's no mention of whether this is aimed specifically at Kinect 2.0, but given the fact that Microsoft should be launching Kinect 2.0 with the Xbox 720, and that developers are already looking next-gen, there's a good chance that most Kinect development in 2013 will be geared towards being compatible with Kinect 2.0 technologies. Other developers too have mentioned Kinect 2.0, and as gaming becomes more family oriented thanks to consoles like Nintendo's Wii and Wii U, motion-based video games will receive more and more interest from larger game developers.

Kinect 2.0, which Microsoft hopes will fare better with critics and hardcore gamers than the original, is said to be far more accurate that the first. Kinect 2.0 should support up to four gamers while having the technology to read lip - it's with this kind of precision that Kinect 2.0 might finally offer some meaningful AAA titles.

Other Xbox 720 rumors point to the console using Blu-Ray discs and around 8GB RAM. The Xbox 720 is also expected to come with a TV input that would allow for the console to act like a DVR for broadcast television. Alongside the dedicated gaming Xbox 720  Microsoft is also said to be working on a cheaper set-top version that will be geared towards entertainment and casual gaming.

Reports indicate Microsoft will release the Xbox 720 in time for the 2013 holiday season.

What do you think about the next Xbox 720? Will Kinect 2.0 finally deliver the first true hardcore motion-based gaming experience?
