HTC's year hasn't gone as well as expected, but the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer is still making sure its devices are getting Android updates in order to keep them fresh and competitive. The latest HTC handset to receive Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is the global version of the HTC One S.
Posters on XDA are confirming that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for several variants of the HTC One S has already started rolling out in certain international regions. As of now, it seems that the update is largely aimed at HTC One S WWE ("WorldWide English") variants, which are sold mostly throughout Europe, according to Android Police.
The update is a hefty 612MB, and as usual, the upgrade will roll out in batches, so don't panic if your One S hasn't received the update just yet.
There's no word on when T-Mobile will release a Jelly Bean upgrade for its One S variant here in the United States.
Other HTC handsets are also in the process of getting upgraded to Jelly Bean. The HTC One XL, the international LTE variant of the One X, recently started receiving its massive 700MB Android 4.1 update. HTC has also released Android 4.1 for the international non-LTE One X. AT&T's HTC One X is expected to get its Jelly Bean upgrade sometime soon, although given the amount of bloatware and testing U.S. carriers stuff Android upgrades with, One X owners shouldn't be holding their breath.
As usual, plenty of Jelly Bean ROMS exist out there, only keep in mind there's always risk when flashing your device. Be sure to back everything up, and read instructions carefully.
