Microsoft Surface Pro Specs, Price: Device Launches in January at $899 for 64GB, $999 for 128GB

The Microsoft Surface RT launched in late October, but as the new year dawns so will a new model of the device. Dubbed the Microsoft Surface Pro, the premium laptop-tablet hybrid will ship "sometime in January" in two flavors: a 64GB at $899 and a 128GB at $999, according to Computer World. In contrast, the RT's price ranges from $500 to $700. Let's take a look at the specs, courtesy of CNET.

Expect the Surface Pro to feature a 64-bit Core i5 Ivy Bridge processor, a 10.6-inch display with 1920x1080 HD resolution, built-in sBitLocker encryption security, USB 3.0, a headset and cover port, a microSDXC card slot, a Mini DisplayPort, and "full digitizer and ink support with Palm Block technology." The Surface team announced on Twitter that the Pro will have "approximately half the battery life of the Surface RT."

While the Surface RT has won over a number of consumers, Microsoft's sparse app market incited doubt in critics, who likened the store to a "ghost town after the apocalypse." The company's goal of achieving the perfect balance between productivity and play appears to be just out of reach, but perhaps the Pro will introduce a few marked enhancements that will make it hard to pass up.
