Apple might be ready to debut the next generation of the iPad tablet only five months after the fourth generation iPad (iPad 4) launch two months ago.
The debut of the iPad 4 surprised many as the iPad 3 launched last March, but perhaps Apple is gearing for a trend of launching a tablet every six months.
According to Macotakara, a Japanese blog, the next 9.7-inch tablet will launch in March 2013 and will resemble the latest iPad Mini. The source cited the iPad 5 will be lighter and thinner compared to its predecessors.
In addition to the iPad 5, the next iPad Mini is scheduled to use the A6X processor, currently utilized in the iPad 4. Macotakara added the iPad Mini will come with Retina Display and a pixel resolution of 2,048x1,536 pixels with 326 pixels per image.
The news from Macotaka comes after RBC Capital Markets analyst Doug Freedman wrote, "iPad Mini Gen-2: Apple's gen-2 iPad mini is getting pulled-in, and is likely to have several new suppliers, with TXN gaining content."
The term "pulled in" refers to Apple is speeding up production of an iPad Mini, according to CNET.
DigiTimes also reported that industry insiders stated the iPad Mini 2 would feature an HD Retina display.
"The sources have yet to specify whether the device will use Apple's Retina Display technology to enhanced resolution, but market observers said it is highly likely based on the development of past Apple products such as the iPhone and 9.7-inch iPad series," DigiTimes reported.
Is it too soon for the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2? Or is it a good business plan for Apple?
