It appears an update might be on the horizon for Samsung Galaxy S3 users based on recent complaints.
A thread on the XDA-Developers forum detailed Galaxy S3 devices experiencing "Sudden Death," that the Samsung smartphone dies suddenly while either charging simultaneously or simply not turning on after shutting down the phone.'
The thread was developed by Obagleyfreer and asked fellow forum members to note the following if they too experienced the same case:
What happened:
What ROM/Firmware:
What kernel:
OC or UV:
Where phone was made:
Where battery was made:
Forum member DeadSOL shared his experience, "I went to sleep in the night with my phone's battery at around 29 [percent]. I just woke up and my phone's home button wouldn't respond. Then, the power button wouldn't respond! I took the battery out and put it back in. It still wouldn't respond! So, I plugged the charger in and then it showed me that it had begun charging. I turned the phone on and as soon as it reached the lock screen, it turned itself off. It did that twice more so I decided to let it rest. Now, it turns on. (>_>) Apparently, 29 [percent] of its battery was somehow consumed last night. I really don't know how!!!! My wifi was on,it seems, but around 30% battery drain in just a few hours?!! That's insane! I'm on stock DL4. Not even rooted! So it's not a "death" case, per se, but I had a really bad scare.
After surveying through other complaints, Obagleyfreer came to a conclusion, stating, "After reading through all the posts I think we can safely say that software isn't to blame here. This is most definitely a hardware issue, the most likely being corrupt NAND, faulty batch of main boards or faulty charger.
Obviously we can't say for certain and Samsung are staying very quiet about the issue."
"Let's hope this issue has been addressed by Samsung and that the devices are being repaired with a revised price of hardware," he added. "Anyone working for a repair centre or even a Samsung employee that can shed some light please come forward. THIS IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR A FLAGSHIP DEVICE."
The "Sudden Death" problems branched a discussion on other forums such as Reddit.
The complaints come as a battery extension for the Galaxy S3 was released. The battery extension kit increased the mAH from 2,100 to 3,000, just 100 mAh shy from matching the Galaxy Note 2.
