Given the recent hoopla over the Samsung Galaxy S3, the HTC One X has quietly slipped out of most consumers' minds as the top choice among Android smartphones. HTC One X owners on AT&T haven't been completely forgotten, however, as it seems that a Jelly Bean update might be just around the corner.
The international variant of the LTE-enabled HTC One X, the One XL, seems to have started receiving an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update in some parts of the world. Users on XDA, via Android Soul, is reporting that the Jelly Bean update for the One XL has been confirmed in Taiwan and Singapore.
The update is quite large, coming in just under 700MB, and is packed with new features. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for the One XL will introduce Google's voice assistant, Google Now, alongside Project Butter, which optimizes system performance and frame rates for a smoother interface.
This doesn't mean that Jelly Bean will land on AT&T's HTC One X within a few days. What it does mean is that Jelly Bean has been released for a virtually identical phone to the One X. The update will take longer to come to AT&T users since U.S. carriers often bog down the Android upgrade process with all kinds of testing and bloatware, but it shouldn't take more than a couple months at most to hit the United States.
The HTC One XL is the international LTE brother of the HTC One X. Both the One X and One XL have a dual-core instead of a quad-core processor in order to incorporate LTE support.
The quad-core non-LTE international HTC One X has already started receiving Android Jelly Bean in several global markets.
