The smartphone market is getting more crowded and the competition is stiff with the introduction of mobile devices this year such as the Apple iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3, Nokia Lumia 920, and the HTC One X.
With Christmas officially one week away, smartphones will be found on the wish list of many.
One of the popular smartphones in demand is the iPhone 5, but how does it fare against the HTC One X?
Frame Size and Weight:
The iPhone 5 is 4.87-inches long, with a width of 2.31-inches, and 0.30-inches for the depth. The HTC One X's length is measured at 5.29-inches, width at 2.75-inches, and a depth of 0.35-inches.
The HTC smartphone weighs more with 4.59-ounces to the Apple smartphone's 3.95-ounces.
Display:
The HTC One X screen is 4.7-inches with a pixel resolution exceeding the any Apple smartphone at 1,280x720 and but at 312 pixels per image (ppi).
The iPhone 5's Retina Display screen is four-inches with a pixel resolution of 1,136x640 at 326 ppi, tad but more than the HTC's ppi.
Internal Storage/Memory:
The iPhone 5 offers more variety when it comes to memory. Although neither devices offer a microSD card slot, the iPhone 5 offers 16GB, 32GB, and 63GB internal storage models with 1GB of RAM while the HTC One X is available with the 32GB model but also with 1GB of RAM.
Wireless Connectivity:
When it comes to receiving an internet connection, the two smartphones are accessible to Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot, Bluetooth version 4.0, and USB version 2.0. A difference for the HTC One X is the smartphone offers Near Field Communication (NFC).
Camera:
The cameras for the HTC and Apple smartphone are very similar.
First, the rear-facing cameras for the iPhone 5 and HTC One X has eight-megapixels with 3,264x2,448 pixels. Second, the rear-facing camera does record at 1080p but at 30 frames per second (fps) for the iPhone 5 and 24fps for the HTC One X. Both smartphones allow simultaneous HD video and image recording, face detection, and LED flash.
The front-facing camera is different. Although both can record at 720p, the camera has 1.2-megapixels for the iPhone 5 and 1.3-megapixels for the HTC One X.
Operating System:
The iPhone 5 runs utilizes the latest Apple mobile operating system, iOS 6, while the HTC One X comes with the Android operating system version 4.0, known as the Ice Cream Sandwich. The HTC One X operating system is upgradable to the latest version 4.1.1, known as the Jelly Bean.
Chipset/CPU:
The HTC One X uses the Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core 1.5 GHz, which aims to "deliver unprecedented performance in a wide range of mobile devices. Extreme multitasking. The best web experience, with up to two times faster browsing than other devices."
Apple installed the A6 chip with the dual-core 1.2 GHz processor. The A6 chip, according to Apple, runs twice as fast compared to the A5 processor. The A6 was first implemented on the iPhone 5.
Battery Capacity:
The HTC One X has a battery capacity of 1,800 mAh, up compared to the iPhone 5's 1,440 mAh. The mAh rates the power capacity of a device. The higher the mAh then the more powerful the batteries are, according to Webopedia.
Prices:
The iPhone 5's starting price for the 16GB is $199, $299 for 32GB, and $399 for the 64GB model. The unlocked Apple smartphone is sold for $649 for the 16GB model, $749 for the 32GB model, and $849 for the 64GB model.
The HTC One X smartphone starts $99.99 when signing a two-year contract, $349.99 for the one-year contract, and month to month will be $499.99 on AT&T. According to Best Buy, the unactivated price is $629.99.
Colors:
The iPhone 5 is available in black and white while the HTC One X offers gray and white.
