The Galaxy Note 2 in the United States is still a ways off from receiving its next Android update, but T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 owners have something else to look forward to: a software update on Dec. 19 that will give the T-Mobile Note 2 Multi-View.
"A software update for the Samsung Galaxy Note II to Baseband version T889UVALK8 is expected to be available on December 19. The software update, which will be available by Over The Air (OTA) and through Kies, will provide new multiscreen functionality, along with a few bug fixes," reads the T-Mobile support page.
Alongside Multi-View, the software update will make sure Exchange calendar events appear on device Calendar and resolves some swipe issues with Gmail.
The update will only be made available to those with Baseband versions T889UVALK8 and T889UVALJ1. If you have any other Baseband version, T-Mobile states that, "T-Mobile and Samsung will not send you a software update."
Multi-View allows for apps to run simultaneously on screen. This means that a user can have Gmail open on one half of the screen, and YouTube open on the other half. Multi-View is just another step Android has taken towards becoming more PC-like. Android 4.2, for instance, introduces multiple user accounts, allowing families and friends to share a single Android device and retain their personal settings much like a desktop.
Watch Multi-View in action:
Samsung has already started rolling out Android 4.1.2 for the Galaxy Note 2 internationally, but is also already at work on an Android 4.2 update for the Galaxy Note 2. Given the time U.S. carriers take to release Android updates, U.S. Galaxy Note 2s might not see an update until Android 4.2 sometime next year.
