Thinking of buying a new smartphone? Perhaps waiting for next year's releases is your best bet at this point. Well, not just any kind of Android handset, of course, but one of these top 7 smartphones.
Samsung Galaxy S7
Apple is known for its quality and superb design, as well as its habit of releasing a new iteration on a yearly basis. Taking note of that, Samsung apparently has caught up and released smartphone models that are very similar in looks and feel to those of its top rival. And it's expected that next year's flagship smartphone coming out of the South Korean tech giant's doors will be its edgiest ever.
"Samsung is expected to announce the next Galaxy S7 in just a few short months, in February," Tech Times noted. "Supposedly sporting the edgiest design yet in smartphones, the Galaxy S7 is rumored to have edged screens on all sides - left, right, up and down."
"The Korean conglomerate is also expected to incorporate a touch sensitive 3D Touch-like feature in its next flagship," it added.
Google Nexus 6 (2016)
The Nexus 6 was just recently released late this year. Nonetheless, it went on to gain a positive reception from pundits and tech fans, leading a good number of them to wonder whether its successor will measure up. Based on rumors, it sounds like it will.
"It will feature a Snapdragon 820 chip, which is more powerful and energy efficient, and builds in support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0," PC Advisor noted. "It will be the launch vehicle for the new Android OS, Android N, and it will most likely arrive in October."
The next model will also be made by Huawei.
LG G5
Previous iterations of LG's flagship smartphone have enjoyed acclaim, which inspires the question whether the company can push the envelope further and release an even better model in 2016. If the rumors about the G5 getting an iris scanner are true, it probably will be one of the most innovative handsets next year.
HTC One M10
The One M8 was fantastic, but its successor was disappointing, so said a number of pundits. It is hoped that HTC learns from its lessons with the M9 and carry those over to the M10. If it does, the upcoming smartphone will be one hit of a gadget.
Motorola Moto X (2016)
"We'd expect improvements in most areas as this tends to be the way so a faster processor, more RAM, microSD support, a larger battery capacity and the latest software would all be reasonable predictions," Pocket-Lint forecasted. "We'd also expect the camera to be a big consideration as it was in 2015."
Sony Xperia Z6
It's no wonder that the most anticipated phones of 2016 tend to be flagships, as tech companies typically give their "all" to these handsets. With that said, it's expected that Sony may do its part with the Z6, which has been rumored to be released in the later half of 2016.
Microsoft Surface Phone
2015 was a good year for Microsoft, thanks to the Surface Book and its new tablets. As such, there's no reason why the company should make 2016 an equally fantastic one with a Surface Phone, which had been whispered about for some time now but has not been confirmed.
"Should it truly exist, the Surface Phone is expected to arrive in 2016, with a 5.5in Quad-HD AMOLED display, 4GB of RAM, 64- and 128GB storage options (with microSD support), a 64-bit Intel processor and 21Mp rear- and 8Mp front cameras," PC Advisor said. "The Surface Phone could also get a Surface Pen and a USB-C port."
