With the wildly successful Kindle reaping in huge earnings for Amazon, the company is taking its new cash cow towards one of the most coveted markets in the financial world--China.

The company announced Thursday that it had launched a Kindle store available for residents of China, where they would sell Chinese electronic books available for Kindle.

The move looks like it could put the company in position to peddle its hot-selling Kindle tablet to more than one billion potential customers in China.

However, Amazon.com officials have not given any indication as to whether they are making any plans geared towards selling the Kindle in the Chinese market.

As Reuters reported, four Kindle devices, including the Kindle Touch and Kindle Fire, were given the regulatory go-ahead from the State Radio Regulation of China in June.

Amazon's former China chief told Reuters this year that the company hopes to bring the Kindle to China within two years.

As it stands, Hanwang Technology corners the e-reader market in China. In addition, E-commerce China Dangdang Inc. and 360buy can also sell eBooks. But with many Chinese citizens buying Kindle overseas, it seems the market--and a demand--for the Kindle is waiting to be tapped.

"It seems like there is pent-up demand for Amazon's Kindle," Mark Natkin, managing director of Beijing-based technology firm Marbridge Consulting, told Reuters in June.

"Amazon is a well-regarded brand both in terms of quality of its products and in terms of its service," added Natkin.

Amazon also started selling eBooks in Brazil earlier this month, with plans to ship the Kindle for sale there in several weeks.
