In the smartphone industry, information about new devices often leaks absurdly early, at times just weeks following a company's latest hardware launch. Such is the case with the iPhone 6, as Jeffries analyst Peter Misek has opened up about the handset's rumored innards.
The sixth generation of iPhones is still in the prototype phase, but Misek suggests that "the most interesting" version features an A7 quad-core processor, covered by a 4.8-inch screen with a Retina+ IGZO display, according to a CNET report. The analyst adds that the iPhone 6 will remove the home button and "could possibly have full gesture control."
But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Before the iPhone 6 even sees the light of day, Apple still has to release the iPhone 5S, which will likely land in mid-2013. Misek notes that a discounted iPhone may also launch alongside the 5S for as low as $200.
The current iPhone 5 model sports the new A6 dual-core processor, with a 4-inch screen with Retina display. Consumers who opt for a two-year contract with Sprint, AT&T, or Verizon have the option of a 16GB iPhone 5 at $199, a 32GB at $299.99, and a 64GB at $399.99. Unlocked phones sans-contract cost $649, 749, and $849 for each respective size
It's still early yet, though, and even if Misek's musings are correct, there is still a strong chance that Apple will iterate on its current design between now and launch. Let's also not forget that there are several potential versions of the iPhone 6 that the analyst failed to mention.
