The ATIV Book 9 Spin laptop could finally change the game for Samsung when it comes to laptops.
The released ATIV Book 9 Spin laptop have made headlines recently, and while the South Korean giant is more known for its high-end smartphones, the new Spin might change that.
The 2-in-1 ultraportable is in direct competition with the HP Spectre X360 and the Lenovo Yoga 900, but with a 360 degree-rotating screen, QHD+ touch screen, 6th-generation Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD storage, the ATIV Book 9 Spin is somehow at par with the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and the Apple MacBook Air, considering that it is a more affordable option at $1,300.
Under the hood, the ATIV Book 9 Spin's powerful Intel Core i7 processor is undeniable. Multitasking with multiple apps at the same time is no problem for this laptop. There's also no issue with screen flickering, which has reportedly presented a constant problem for users of other Windows 10 laptops like the Surface Pro 4, Surface Book, Dell XPS 13 and Dell XPS 1.
In a review by CNET, the Samsung newbie is described an Apple killer since its ultra-thin frame is as tough a laptop can be with a rigid aluminum unibody. According to the review, the laptop could even take a bumpy backpack ride. The touchpad is also worthy of praise.
Another noteworthy review is from Tech Radar, which claimed:
"Lightweight, high in resolution and performance, Samsung's latest Ativ Book 9 Spin delivers on everything you want from an Ultrabook with an extra hybridization feature."
In addition to the aforementioned features and specs, the weight of the ATIV Book 9 Spin is also a plus since it's almost a pound lighter, and thus, is easier to carry around than the MacBook Air 2015. The resolution on the Samsung laptop is also more than twice that of Apple's.
On Best Buy where the new laptop is on display, the ultraportable has a 4.7 customer rating.
Ultra Book Review praised the device saying that "Samsung did a great job with this computer. There's no surprise the build quality is topnotch and the touchpad is very good. The previous ATIV Books had some shallow keys and problems with high temperatures. I'm glad this isn't the case here anymore."
However, while Samsung meant for the ATIV Book 9 Spin to withstand time, there are still cons.
According to The Inquisitr, problems appeared after 15 minutes of usage. Apparently, the short travel distance and "mushy feel" of the Spin's backlit keyboard poses a problem when typing. The touchscreen also has that "light grease background" that makes colors appear inaccurate when compared to the color resolution of other laptops like Dell's or Microsoft's.
The ATIV Book 9 Spin is an overall good device, but besides being a laptop-tablet hybrid, it doesn't stand out among the rest of other 2-in-1 laptops. When it comes to powerful and high resolution ultraportables, the MacBook Pro Retina, Surface Book or Surface Pro 4 are still better options.
