Is This the Next Apple MacBook? [Release Date, Specs, Features & Rumors]

"60 Minutes" host Charlie Rose took a tour at the Apple campus recently and interviewed CEO Tim Cook and General Counsel and Senior Vice President Bruce Sewell. Interestingly, during Sewell's segment, a laptop that can be seen behind him "appears to have a number of unseen design characteristics," Digital Trends observed.

As such, pundits speculated that the laptop in question could possibly be a 2016 edition of the MacBook series.

"The screen appears to have sharper corners at the upper end, as opposed to the very round corners on the current MacBook," the tech news source described. "The screen aspect ratio appears quite different from the current model as well, shorter and wider than the 12-inch MacBook."

"The keyboard also takes up the entire space of the keyboard horizontally, which means it's a smaller system like the 12-inch MacBook, since even the currently out-of-production MacBook Pro 17 didn't include a numpad to fill out the extra space," it added.

However, the site also conceded that the observation warrants a pinch of salt as Apple is not known to leak information about its upcoming releases. If it does let loose some info, they're just minor details. And that definitely doesn't involve new product designs.

Also, the angle of the shot may play a factor.

"It is an out-of-focus shot, though, so the most likely explanation is that it's simply a regular space gray MacBook," Cult of Mac noted.

"The entire conference room is actually full of Apple's current products," it added. "Everything from the Mac Pro to AirPort Express can be seen briefly in the background of the group interview."

Hours after the "60 Minutes" Apple episode aired, and in the midst of the buzz created by the MacBook sighting, Tech Insider said that an Apple representative had clarified that the computer in the background was actually the 12-inch MacBook.

Should there be a new MacBook iteration, it's likely that it will be teased or announced at the 2016 WWDC.

"The conference, which takes place in June, has historically focused on OS X and new Mac hardware," Digital Trends relayed. "A rumor making waves in late November suggests we'll see new designs for the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro at the conference."
