It was recently confirmed that 162 Samsung devices will receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update early in 2016. A timeline was allegedly provided, enumerating the devices that will receive the OS update.

Based on a report by SamMobile, 12 Samsung devices will be getting the Android 6.0 Marshmallow in the first quarter of 2016, but the specific date or month was not mentioned. Furthermore, four Samsung devices will get the update in the second quarter of 2016.

The list for the first quarter 2016 release includes:

• Samsung Galaxy Note 5
• Samsung Galaxy Note 4
• Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Duos
• Samsung Galaxy Note Edge
• Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+
• Samsung Galaxy S6 edge
• Samsung Galaxy S6
• Samsung Galaxy S6 Duos
• Samsung Galaxy S5
• Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo
• Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE-A

The list for the second quarter 2016 release includes:

• Samsung Galaxy ALPHA
• Samsung Galaxy Tab A
• Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7
• Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0

There was also a disclaimer that the dates are merely estimated and can be subject to change any time. Updates on the schedule and confirmed devices are expected to follow in the coming weeks.

Earlier in December 2015, GottaBeMobile noted that Google also released a newer version of the OS, which is called Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. The update is said to bring enhanced performance, more stability and additional security patches.

Moreover, the update is set to release to various devices in the coming months. It is currently rolling out to the Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player and Nexus 7 (2013).

On of the highlights of the update is the provision of a quick launch camera feature which lets users activate the camera by simply double tapping the Home button on the Samsung Galaxy S6. More importantly, the new feature allows users to immediately launch their camera in less than one second so they can take photos on the go.

Moreover, the volume controls have been improved so that a single volume slider will work across devices. A “do not disturb” option was also added to the volume controls. The tablet UI was adjusted to move some buttons to the sides for easier operations. The failed MMS bug was fixed as well as the delay in copy and paste selection. Security patches have also been arranged so users do not have to wait longer to get more updates.

More updates and details on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow are expected soon.
