The gaming community has been waiting for Nintendo's new console codenamed as Nintendo NX since it was confirmed over nine months ago. However, the Japanese company has remained silent when it comes to providing any detail about the gaming console they are currently developing.
Nonetheless, a new patent filed by Nintendo last June at the United States Patent and Trademarks Office (USPTO) might give fans a clue of what's to come for Nintendo NX.
Spotted by a NeoGAF user at Free Patents Online, the patent published last Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015, details an oval-shaped "game apparatus and information processing apparatus" that could possibly be the design and specifications for the controller of Nintendo NX which is currently in development.
"A display panel and a touch panel constitute one main surface of the first portion. Holes are formed in left and right end portions of the display panel and the touch panel, and two operation sticks are provided through the two holes. When viewing the first portion from the front, an area except key tops of the operation sticks becomes a display area," the patent application's abstract detailed at the USPTO.
Nonetheless, despite having a touchscreen feature, the device resembles a typical gaming controller especially with the presence of handles for gripping on both sides.
According to the report by Game Rant, although the patent application shows a traditional-looking controller contrary to what fans have seen from Wii Remote and Wii U Gamepad, the controller seems to fit into the rumors that the Nintendo NX will be a hybrid of a "home game console and a handheld."
Nintendo is yet to comment about this patent. However, Game Rant highlighted that, although this patent might be part of the plan for NX, there is still the possibility that this might not reach the development stage, just like other patents filed by the company.
As cited by the report of Tech Radar, Nintendo NX will be a "brand new concept" which is unlike any other console Nintendo has on the market.
The report added that the Japan-based Company could possibly create the NX as a "console-portable hybrid" with a new control method.
Nintendo promises to provide more details about the Nintendo NX in 2016. Moreover, no release date has been confirmed yet for the said console but Tech Radar speculates that it will be released in the holiday of 2016 given Nintendo's track record of releasing their consoles a year after announcement.
Stay tuned as Latinos Post will keep you updated as developments about Nintendo NX surface.
