Apple has a lot to offer potential customers for the holiday shopping season and it doesn't have to come in the form of the iPhone smartphones or iPad tablets.
If it is simply music and videos that pleases your appetite then the iPod series can fulfill such cravings.
Apple's latest iPod is the iPod Touch Fifth Generation (5G) while there is an alternative, and cheaper, iPod Classic.
How different are they?
Frame Size and Weight:
The iPod Classic has a height of 4.1-inches, width of 2.4-inches, and a depth of 0.41-inches with a weight of 4.9-ounces. The iPod Touch 5G has a slightly larger height of 4.86-inches, width of 2.31-inches, depth of 0.24-inches, and weighs less at 3.10-ounces.
Display:
The iPod Touch 5G features a giant screen, at least compared to the iPod Classic. The screen size of the latest iPod is four-inches with Retina Display and a pixel resolution of 1,136x640 and at 326 pixels per inch (ppi).
The iPod Classic's screen is 2.5-inches, no Retina Display, and with a pixel resolution of 320x240 and at 163 ppi.
Internal Storage/Memory:
The iPod Classic has a hard drive of 160GB while the iPod Touch is available in 32GB and 64GB models.
Camera:
The iPod Touch 5G features a five-megapixel iSight camera on the back of the device with 1080p HD video recording up to 30 frames per second (fps), while the front-facing camera has 1.2-megapixels and records 720p HD video at 30fps.
The iPod Classic does not have a camera.
Wireless Connectivity:
The iPod Touch 5G is accessible to Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth version 4.0, while the iPod Classic does not have wireless connectivity.
Battery:
While both iPods utilize the lithium-ion battery, playback time is slightly in favor of the iPod Touch 5G.
The iPod Classic has music playback time, when fully charged, lasting up to 36 hours while video playback is six hours.
The iPod Touch 5G has music playback time at 40 hours and eight hours for video playback, when fully charged.
For both iPods, it will take approximately four hours to fully charge while two hours will provide at least 80 percent capacity.
Input and Output:
The iPod Classic uses the classic dock connector and 3.5-mm headphone jack, while the iPod Touch 5G has the new Lightning connector, 3.5-mm stereo headphone jack, built-in speaker, and microphone.
Headphones:
When purchasing the iPod Classic, the headphones provided, for free, in the box is the Apple Earphones while the iPod Touch 5G has the new EarPods.
Prices:
The iPod Touch 5G is priced at $299 for the 32GB model and $399 for the 64GB model, while the iPod Classic will cost $249.
