As Apple continues to launch their latest smartphone, Nokia is banking on the early success of the Lumia 920 as they set to launch the Lumia 620.
Nokia confirmed the Lumia 620 as their "third and most affordable" of the Windows Phone 8 smartphones with its "more fun, youthful appeal, and compact design."
The Lumia 620 doesn't have a US release date yet, but it is expect to launch across Asia and Europe starting January 2013. Coincidentally, the iPhone 5 is beginning to launch across 53 countries starting Dec. 14 following its Dec. 7 launch in South Korea.
So what can the world expect from Nokia's "most affordable" smartphone compared to the juggernaut that is the iPhone 5?
Frame and Weight:
The iPhone 5 comes with a frame length of 4.87-inches, width of 2.31-inches, and a depth of 0.30-inches while the Lumia 620 has a slightly small length size of 4.54-inches, larger width of 2.41-inchdes, and a depth of 0.43-inches.
The Lumia 620 weighs more at 4.48-ounces and the iPhone 5 stands at 3.95-ounces.
Screen:
The Lumia 620 has a screen size of 3.8-inches with 800x480 pixel resolution and 246 pixels per image (ppi). The iPhone 5 has larger numbers, starting with the four-inch screen size, pixel resolution of 1,136x640, and 326 ppi.
The Lumia 620 utilizes the ClearBlack Technology Display while the iPhone 5 has the Retina Display.
Internal Storage/Memory:
The iPhone 5 is available in three storage models, the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB with each having 1GB of RAM. The Lumia 620 does not offer either GB models that the Apple smartphone does; instead, it offers 8GB of internal storage with 512MB of RAM.
The Lumia 620 does have one advantage over the iPhone 5: the microSD card slot. The iPhone 5 does not offer a card slot but the Lumia 620 does, up to 64GB.
Camera:
The Lumia 620's rear-facing camera features five-megapixels with 2,592x1,936 pixels, but it doesn't have Carl Zeiss optics featured in the Lumia 920. The front-facing camera has 640x480 pixels, also known as Video Graphics Array (VGA).
When it comes to video, only the rear-facing camera records, at 720p and 30 frames per second (fps).
The iPhone 5 has an eight-megapixel rear-facing camera with 3,264x2,448 pixels
Wireless Connectivity:
To obtain Internet connection, the two smartphones offer Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth, and USB accessibility.
One advantage for the Lumia 620 is it features Near Field Communication (NFC), while the iPhone 5 does come with the latest Bluetooth version compared to the Lumia 620.
Operating System:
A notable difference will be the operating system, or OS.
The iPhone 5 uses the latest Apple OS, the iOS 6, while the Lumia 620 will use Microsoft's latest mobile OS, the Windows Phone 8
Chipset/Processor
The Lumia 620 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 and dual-core 1 GHz Krait processor, while Apple utilizes the latest A6 chip and dual-core 1.2 GHz processor.
Battery:
The Lumia 620's battery capacity utilizes 1,300 mAh with a standby time of 330 hours and up to nine hours and 50 minutes of talk time in 3G. The iPhone 5 has 1,440 mAh with a standby time of 225 hours and eight hours for talk time when under a 3G network.
Colors:
The iPhone 5 is offered in black and white models while the Lumia 620 is available in black, cyan, lime green, magenta, orange, white, and yellow.
Price:
The Lumia 620's unlocked version will cost $249. Nokia has not disclosed a contracted price.
The iPhone 5 has a price of $199 for the 16GB model, $299 for the 32GB model, and $399 for the 64GB model when signing a two-year contract with a carrier. The iPhone 5's unlocked prices start at $649 for the 16GB model, $749 for the 32GB model, and $849 for the 64GB model.
