Fans have been waiting for the next installment in the "Left 4 Dead" series for a very long time, during which rumors have begun spread about the game's story.
One such rumor is that, according to Master Herald, the game is actually going to be a prequel to the events that happened during "Left 4 Dead 2". The rumor states that the game's story is to take place a whole month before the zombie outbreak that devastated the world.
This rumor also stated that the characters who are going to be in the game will be new once again. The survivors in this game will again be three males and one female. The three males supposedly are to be a gangster named Irvin, a comic book nerd named Keenan and a world-famous Kenpo instructor named Garrett Jr. The lone woman in the group is named Katherine.
However, it seems that a report from Kotaku debunks this rumor as the website has gone and emailed Valve's Chet Faliszek, who replied that the rumors of the next "Left 4 Dead" game being a prequel are entirely false.
Faliszek states that there was a YouTube video stating that it was a game that introduced the reason why there are zombies in the world and that the outbreak started out with a heist. The Valve executive goes on to say that the video actually featured a fan-made level for the game "Overkill" and that Valve has no plans on making a "Left for Dead" prequel game at the moment.
This confirmation from Faliszek is definitely a blow to fans of the first-person shooting series, as it has now been six years since "Left for Dead 2" debuted. However, fans are not concerned as it is not unusual for Valve to take its time with games, as several of the company's series are currently on a long hiatus.
However, from all of the franchises that Valve currently owns, it seems that the "Left for Dead" series is the one under the most fire since Valve did split with Turtle Rock Studios, which is the main developer for "Left for Dead." From reports that have been leaked out, Valve does intend to release "Left for Dead 3" before they finish "Half-Life 3."
While that is not saying much since "Half-Life 3" has been in the developmental stage for what seems to be forever, Valve has been indicating that the game is nearing completion.
