Flip phones are still around though most of them have limitations. Samsung has some of its own without the high-end features but all that could change soon with the recent launch of the Samsung W2016.
Samsung’s latest innovative entry has hit China, practically offering a Samsung Galaxy S6 trapped in a new ingenious flip phone body. The said device is currently listed at the Samsung China site.
Regardless, it should be something worth waiting for and hopefully something that will be made available globally.
So what makes it different?
As mentioned, the Samsung W2016 carries features that bring to mind the Samsung Galaxy S6.
But in this case, there have been some iterations to make it fit via the flip phone mold, led by two 3.9-inch Super Amoled touchscreens (WXGA 768x1280 pixels) on both sides of the upper portion of the said device.
The Samsung W2016 draws its power from an octa-core Exynos 7420 processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, 3 GB of RAM, 64 GB of built-in storage, a 13 MP main camera, a 5 MP front-facing camera, and is even dual-SIM capable.
It comes with the usual 3G, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS features, not to mention support for 4G, LTE, 3G and 2G. A 2000 mAh battery will be tasked to keep it powered up, something that supports fast-charging technology as well.
Out of the box, the Samsung W2016 will come with Android 5.1 Lollipop along with Samsung’s TouchWiz.
Taking the flip phone as a whole, the Samsung W2016 measures 120.4x61x15.1mm and weighs 204 grams as detailed by Gadgets 360. It is available in gold and silver colored theme variations.
In this day and age, one would think that flip phones are no longer an ‘in’ thing. But going through the specs and how it was magnificently molded, it wouldn’t be surprising if some folks would want to have one of these phones which seriously carry a certain touch of class.
For now however, the folks over in China will be the ones certain to get hold of one though running down the specs and fitting them in somehow makes you wonder how much one would actually cost.
GSM Arena speculates that the Samsung W2016 could be priced for about $1,565 after currency conversions, quite a steep price which could hinder this device from kicking off well.
