Samsung users will be pleased as a recent report by Yibada reveals leaked released dates of the new Android 6.0 -- widely known as the "Android Marshmallow" -- for Samsung handsets. While other mobile brands such as HTC, Huawei, Sony, and Motorola have already announced expected dates of release, Korean tech giant manufacturer Samsung is not holding off its share of Android updates for its handset range having revealed that they will be releasing the Marshmallow in a few weeks.
Tech website Android Geeks reports that the much-awaited Android updates will be rolled out in three phases: Phase 1, Phase 2, and Phase 3. Samsung flagship phones and high-end handsets will be a part of the Phase 1 update. The rest of the "more affordable" smartphones can expect the Marshmallow update during Phase 2. Phase 3 will be covering "two budget tablets" from the Korean manufacturer.
International Business Times cites a photo of a supposedly confidential document from Samsung, which revealed schedule details of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow for its smartphones. As early as next month, the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge+ flagships may be taking a first crack of the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Unfortunately, fresh updates from the same report have retracted the update for Galaxy S6 Edge+ with its new ETA having been pushed to January 2016 -- along with Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. On the other hand, the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge is slated to receive the Android Marshmallow update on February 2016, a month after the S6 models. Currently, Samsung is reported to be undergoing an experimentation phase to test the software update for its devices.
Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy models preceding the S6 can expect the Android 6.0 update months later. According to the IB Times report, the Galaxy S5 will most likely acquire the update by April 2016. The Galaxy A8 handset is lucky by a month as it is expected to get the Marshmallow by March. Other Samsung smartphone models such as the Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy A5, Galaxy A3, Galaxy E7, Galaxy E5, Galaxy J7, Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J2 smartphones are still pending for an approved date. The Galaxy J1, Galaxy Note 3, and Galaxy S4 models are not so lucky as a Marshmallow upgrade is said to be unapproved.
Samsung tablets were also revealed to be getting a Marshmallow update, according to IB Times. The 9.7-inch and 8-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 models, the Galaxy Tab S 8.4, the Galaxy Tab A 8 and 9.7 are set to receive the newest Android update. The Galaxy Tab S 10.5 will be getting it by April 2016.
