'Half Life 3' Confirmed? [Release Date, Gameplay & Rumors]

Although Valve Corporation has not officially confirmed the existence of "Half-Life 3" yet, rumors of the game continue to swirl in cyberspace. Not only that, clues pointing to the development of the said title appear to support the buzz, thus keeping those speculations alive all this time, even years after the release of "Half-Life 2".

And now, it's been reported that Valve writer Chet Faliszek had denied part three will have virtual reality (VR) support.

Wait, will there be a "Half-Life 3" then?

"In a Q&A session following his talk on VR, one member of the audience cheekily asked if Half-Life 3 would be a VR game," VG24/7 noted.

Faliszek answered, "No."

"When asked about the Half-Life 3 question again by the same person, he joked, 'I said no,'" the news source added.

"We know virtually nothing about Half-Life 3. We don't know if it exists in any kind of incomplete state, or if not, if it will exist at all at any point in the near or distant future," PC Gamer pointed out. "We don't even know if Valve wants to make it exist at this point. But we do know, thanks to Valve's Chet Faliszek, that it will not be a VR game."

However, PC Gamer continued to wonder whether the "no" answer referred to "Half-Life 3's" development or that it isn't being made for VR.

"On the other hand, he didn't deny that it's being made," the publication observed.

In other news, Ars Technica's Kyle Orland claimed that there's evidence the title is indeed being developed.

"Just search through the files for the latest update to Dota 2 on your hard drive," he wrote. "See the file labeled 'hl3.txt' in the core/tools/help/fgd folder?"

"Do you realize what 'hl3' could stand for?" he went on. "It could stand for 'Half-Life 3'!"

He further said that skeptics can verify this clue by checking the file's contents.

"Look, there's a bit that mentions a 'Combine Pulse Ceiling Turret,'" he explained. "And another that mentions quest members that are 'Neutral to Combine and [don't] take damage.'"

"Do you know what famous video game franchise has an organization called The Combine?" he asked. "It's 'Half-Life'! The Combine is from 'Half-Life'!"

Orland went on to gush that the sequel will be "so great" considering the features referenced in the said file.

"Squads full of citizens that can participate in combat! A 'VR chaperone' to guide players through virtual reality! Invincible hunters! 'Facial expression override!'" he enumerated.
