The Xposed framework for Android 6.0 Marshmallow is currently available. However, Sony and Samsung users may experience certain issues, so it is recommended that they backup their files first before trying the new setup.
On an XDA forum, rovo89, an Xposed developer, revealed that version 76 of the framework has been released. The new model provides support for Android 6.0 Marshmallow. According to rovo86, the framework has been tested only on one device, but he expects it to operate smoothly for others as well. The developer mentioned that he tested it on a Nexus9/arm64 but is confident that the arm and x86 builds will run efficiently too. He added that the Xposed Installer app did not need further changes and users can still use version 3.0 alpha4. Google’s refactoring allowed rovo89 to simplify the tweaks, so he was able to port most Xposed-related content, except for encrypted and gzipped file support.
Tech Times reported that Xposed is a framework used by modules that allows users to adjust how the system and apps behave without having to alter the APK. The approach provides both efficiency and convenience because only the modules will require tweaking, while the whole system and related apps can remain unaltered. When the module is deactivated, the system will reboot and the phone will be restored to its original state before the module was integrated.
Users should note that the Xposed framework was only tested on a system with SuperSu installed, so certain SELinux and dm-verity rules are disabled. Developers are still looking for a way to access SELinux’spreference files due to its restrictions. Other Xposed APIs were not tested and users might have to adjust some Xposed functions to work with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Modules might require updates due to adjustments made in the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). There may also be issues from the Just In Time (JIT) compiler and optimizing compiler, which will rewrite the code of the apps and skip calls. Crashes may happen at times too.
Android Authority cited that Sony and Samsung phones have shown bootlooping issues.
Phone Arena has provided instructions on how to install the Xposed framework on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Users will need a rooted device with a custom recovery installed. Users are also asked to backup their device first, by preferably opting for a full-system NANDroid one.
Users can begin to download and install the new Xposed framework. More updates, details and possible fixes are expected in the coming weeks.
