As 2012 winds down, Samsung is already working hard on its next flagship smartphone for 2013, the Galaxy S4, and a new rumor suggests that the handset will sport an unbreakable screen.
The rumor comes to us via a Reuters report, which states that Samsung is moving full steam ahead with Galaxy S4 development and might be introducing an unbreakable screen on the smartphone. The report also states that Samsung is likely to release the Galaxy S4 earlier than it released the Galaxy S3 smartphone in May 2012.
"Looking to the first half of 2013, we see evidence of Samsung likely accelerating the release of the Galaxy S IV - compared with May (this year) for the Galaxy S III," said UBS analyst Nicolas Gaudois in the Reuters report. "We believe preparations for volume manufacturing of unbreakable plastic substrate displays continue. All in all, we could see a strong products push in the high-end in the first half, followed by other releases."
An earlier insider tip provided to SamMobile also hinted at a Galaxy S4 (codename 'Project J') unveiling in April 2013. This would mean Samsung will be holding its own launch event, rather than revealing the smartphone at the International Consumer Electronics show in Jan. 2013 or the Mobile World Congress in Feb. 2013.
The Galaxy S4 is rumored to come with 5-inch unbreakable display that will be in full 1080p and push out 441 pixels per inch (ppi). The device should also come with a 13-megapixel camera. Some rumors even claim the Galaxy S4 could come with two quad-core processors working with each other - giving the smartphone a total of eight cores. Expect at least 2GB RAM, although Samsung might up that to 3GB or even 4GB. Samsung has also been producing 128GB memory chips, and this high storage capacity could be seen on a Galaxy S4 variant.
None of this has been officially confirmed by Samsung, so remember to take the rumors with some skepticism. It won't be too much longer until official details begin trickling out from Samsung itself.
