It seems that Apple's iOS has a step up on the Android in regards to internet traffic from mobile devices.
According to a new six month study, the iOS owned 67 percent of the traffic in 2012 from May through late November. The study was done by Chitka Insights who decided to study how the release of new mobile devices altered the online traffic landscape. The company did a user agent analysis on billions of ad impressions in order to create their findings.
iOS dominated comfortably throughout the entire six month cycle without ever dipping below 50 percent. The Android meanwhile hovered under 40 percent from much of the period except in August when it finally reached 40 percent due in part to the release of the Samsung Galaxy S3. Apple regained it momentum in the following months with the release of the iPhone 5, iPad 4, and iPad Mini.
Chitka Insights noted that a major contributor to Apple's success in web traffic comes mainly from the iPad's preponderance as the most popular and widely sold tablet on the market.
