A lot is going on for the "Call of Duty" franchise. Just last November 6, 2015, the franchise's latest installment "Black Ops III" has been released. However, as it turns out, there are a lot more left to see for the highly-popular video game franchise.
During the Blizzcon 2015, Activision Blizzard, the parent company of Blizzard Entertainment and Activision Publishing, announced the establishment of its new division called Activision Blizzard Studios which will focus on creating Television shows and films inspired by the company's iconic properties.
According to the company's Press Release, part of the new studios' early project is the creation of a "robust cinematic universe" which is based on the "Call of Duty" franchise which they envision to be a "series of Call of Duty feature films" as well as "TV adaptations."
However, the press release did not did not mention if the upcoming Call of Duty-inspired entertainment content will follow the franchise's stories or will introduce a new plot.
Game Rant cited that the first movie for the "Call of Duty" franchise under the studio will be launched by 2018 or 2019.
Former Disney Senior Executive Nick van Dyk will be taking the reins of the studio as its co-president together with a yet-unnamed "top creative" executive.
Furthermore, besides "Call of Duty", Activision Blizzard emphasized that the new studio is already working on an animated TV series of its award-winning toys-to-life video game "Skylanders" entitled "Skylanders Academy" which will feature the voices of actors Justin Long, Ashley Tisdale, Jonathan Banks and Norm Macdonald.
"Activision Blizzard is home to some of the most successful entertainment franchises in history, across any medium. With the launch of Activision Blizzard Studios, our engaged fans can now watch the games they love come to life across film and television. Activision Blizzard Studios is yet another way we're celebrating our players and fans, and we expect that our film and television productions will entertain and delight whole new audiences, as well. I'm excited that Nick and his team will be leading this important new growth opportunity for Activision Blizzard," shared Blizzard's Chief Executive Officer Bobby Kotick in the press release.
Besides "Call of Duty" and "Skylanders," Activision Blizzard is also behind the blockbuster games such as "World of Warcraft," "Hearthstone," "Diablo" and "Starcraft." Thus, the possibility of seeing films and TV series based on these games are highly likely.
