People are receiving more and more options as to which tablet to purchase with the recent additions of the iPad Mini, iPad 4, Microsoft Surface, and the Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9."

Today, Latinos Post will focus on the iPad Mini and the Kindle Fire HD 8.9-inches.

The iPad Mini has so far been receiving popular demand, even comparing to the larger and standard-sized iPad 4, both released on Nov. 2. The Kindle Fire HD 8.9" saw an October release date following the new Kindle Fire HD tablet.

Frame Size and Weight:

The iPad Mini's frame is measured at 7.87-inches for length, width of 5.30-inches, and a depth of 0.28-inches. The Kindle Fire HD 8.9" has a larger length of 9.45-inches, 6.46-inches for width, and a depth of 0.35-inches.

The Amazon tablet weighs more at 567 grams (g) compared to the Apple's 308g.

Screen/Display:

The Kindle Fire HD 8.9" already lists its screen size - at 8.9-inches. The Amazon tablet has a pixel resolution of 1,920x1,200 and at 254 pixels per image (ppi).

The iPad Mini has a screen size of 7.9-inches with a pixel resolution for the Apple tablet is 1,024x768 and at 162 ppi.

Internal Storage/Memory:

The iPad Mini is available in three types of internal storage models, the 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB. The iPad Mini also comes with 512MB of RAM and does not offer a microSD card slot.

The Amazon tablet has some similarities, such as offering 16GB and 32GB internal storage models and not offering a microSD slot. Instead of 512MB of RAM, the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" offers 1GB of RAM. The Amazon tablet does not offer a 64GB variant.

Wireless Connectivity:

When it comes to receiving Internet connection, both tablets offer Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth, and USB accessibility.

Camera (Photography and Video):

Camera options are very different for the two tablets.

The iPad Mini offers a rear-facing camera with five-megapixels and 2,592x1,944 pixels while its front-facing camera offers 1.2-megapixels.

The Kindle Fire HD 8.9" does not offer a rear-facing camera while its front-facing camera offers 1.3-megapixels, at 1,280x1,024 pixels.

For video, the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" does not offer video capabilities either but the iPad Mini does with 1080' at 30 frames per second (fps) for the rear-facing camera and 720p and at 30fps for the front-facing camera.

Operating System:

The Apple tablet utilizes the company's latest iOS 6 while the Kindle Fire HD 8.9" utilizes the rivaling Android operating system, coming with version 4.0, known as the Ice Cream Sandwich.

Chipset/CPU:

The Kindle Fire HD 8.9" uses the TI OMAP 4470 which Texas Instruments touts it as "The highest levels of processor performance and lowest power consumption," and utilizing the dual-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A9 processor.

The iPad Mini uses the A5 chipset, the same used on the iPad 2 and iPad 3 and utilizes the dual-core 1GHz Cortex-A9 processor.

Prices:

The iPad Mini's starting price is $329 for the 16GB model, $429 for the 32GB model, and 64GB will have the price tag of $529. However, the Wi-Fi with Cellular model of the iPad Mini will have different prices. The 16GB model has a price of $459, $559 for the 32GB, and $659 for the 64GB model.

The Kindle Fire HD 8.9" starting price is $299 for the 16GB unit and $369 for the 32GB, but that is with the special offers Amazon is offering. Without the specials, the price increases to $314 for the 16GB model and $384 for the 32GB model.
