There are rumors that game developer Blizzard is aiming to revive three of its most popular games. “StarCraft,” “Warcraft 3,” and “Diablo 2” will reportedly be revived.
“We need engineers to help maintain our legacy games. We have a history of maintaining our games for many years. Our earlier games are still played and enjoyed today, so we want to continue to maintain them for those communities." Blizzard stated to GameSpot.
NeoGAF cited that Blizzard recently created a new division called “Classic Games” and began hiring staff. One job opening specifically mentioned that Blizzard is planning to “restore to glory” the titles “StarCraft (1998),” “Warcraft III (2002),” and “Diablo II (2000).”
The game developer stated that the three games were the biggest during their time because of their compelling stories, endless replayability and intense multiplayer. However, online services and new hardware and operating systems have made new generations unfamiliar with the games. Loyal gamers are also struggling not to venture into newer games.
Blizzard announced that they will be restoring the three games to their former glory, which explains the need for software engineers with the ability and passion for finishing the task. Successful candidates are required to take on various roles and also be familiar with small teams.
The job responsibilities of potential hires include creating gameplay first again on new operating systems, making conditions for visually stunning experiences, enhancing multiplayer by hacking preventive measures, to curate and implement new and classic features and to diagnose and create fixes accordingly.
“StarCraft” and “Warcraft” are real-time strategy games, while “Diablo II” is a role-playing game. “StarCraft” has two main titles and four expansions, “Warcraft” has three main titles and one expansion pack. “Diablo II” is the second title in the franchise, which has three main titles and two expansion packs. “Diablo II”s expansion pack, “Lord of Destruction,” released in 2001. The three games have received acclaims and continue to be played by gamers over a decade after their official launch.
Blizzard is set to host BlizzCon on Nov. 6 to 7, 2015 in Anaheim, California. The company is expected to launch a new movie trailer for “Warcraft” and possibly share more details about the revival of the three hit games. Virtual tickets are currently available, which will allow access to live streams of developer interviews and panels. There are several other benefits and details to expect from Blizzard in the coming days.
