Apple is reportedly preparing for the release a new metal iPhone model in 2016. The upcoming handset is said to feature a number of powerful specifications and features, and may be also be dubbed “iPhone 7c.”
Apple Insider revealed that the Apple smartphone might be equipped with a 4-inch display, a powerful A9 system-on-chip (SoC), next-generation software and metal casing.
KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated in a research note that the iPhone 7c may have functions that would resemble an updated iPhone 5s, which was the last Apple handset that featured a 4-inch screen. Considering that the demand for a smaller Apple smartphone is still high, the company intends to cater to the market accordingly. Kuo stated that mass production of the new phone may begin in the first half of 2016. The device may be introduced together with the iPhone 7 next year.
Details are still scant at the moment, but Kuo speculated that the device will feature metal casing, as well as a variety of processors, circuits and sensors. The device may also be powered by an A9 chipset, which will actually be a last-generation component at the time that the iPhone 7c launches. Kuo mentioned that the product may not include 3D Touch, which will most likely be incorporated in the iPhone 7. 3D Touch is an improved version of Force Touch. The technology first appeared on iPhone 6s and 6s Plus in September 2015, providing various capabilities and access features, Apple Insider revealed.
The iPhone 7c might be intended as the budget model of the flagship device. It will particularly appeal to users who wish to maintain the 4-inch form factor of previous Apple models.
Foxxconn, or Hon Hai, may become the exclusive supplier of the reported iPhone 7c. Kuo predicted that about 20 to 30 million units of the phone may be sold in 2016 if it launches.
As for the iPhone 7, it will most likely be introduced in the third quarter of 2016, similar to previous iPhone models. The iPhone 7 may feature powerful specifications, such as an A10 chip. There may be two variants – a 4.7-inch model with 2GB of RAM, and a 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus with 3GB of RAM, Mac Rumors cited. TSMC might be awarded the task of being the sole provider of the A9 and A10 chip for the upcoming models.
More updates and details on the 4-inch Apple iPhone are expected in the following months.
