HTC One M8 owners may have to wait a bit longer for Android Marshmallow to reach their handsets.
Mo Versi, the company's VP for product management, recently informed users that there will be a delay in updating the M8 to the latest mobile OS version.
"Versi's tweet reveals that HTC had to 're-spin' the software," Phone Arena reported. "The good news is that the executive expects Technical Approval for the update to take place sometime during the next few days. Once that happens, the update is good to go."
A month ago, Versi had said that Android 6.0 would arrive in One M8 in October. His recent announcement was not accompanied by a clear explanation on why there was a delay.
Marshmallow was released by Google on September 29 and "pushed out the final build of Marshmallow to AOSP on October 5th," Android Standard recalled.
HTC had then announced the rollout of the said mobile OS to its flagship smartphone, along with Sense 7 UI, which will involve "major changes user interface with Android 6.0 update."
"Previously, HTC made a 90 day promise to roll out Android Lollipop to the One M8 but the release was delayed by a few days," the site noted. "But this time HTC may release Marshmallow for One M8 flagship on time."
"HTC usually takes about 90 days to release updates to its flagships after Google released them," it added.
HTC delivering the Android 6.0 before the 90-day time frame would be an accomplishment for the company, and may probably be regarded as a testament to its improvement.
However, with the promised rollout delayed, could HTC be falling back to its 90-day promise? Will One M8 users expect to get Marshmallow at the end of December or early next year?
"Carrier locked editions of One M8 may get the Android Marshmallow in December or January 2015," Android Standard speculated. "It seems to be a long time to wait but users of carrier editions of One M8 can flash stock Android roms to enjoy Android Marshmallow early."
Marshmallow will give the users the option to deny or permit apps, as well as a better web experience through Chrome Custom Tabs. It will also have fingerprint support and the Android Pay feature. It will also allow devices to save battery juice and recharge faster via Doze.
"With motion sensors, Doze recognizes automatically position of device and usage of device," Android Standard said. "So Doze recognizes whether the user is asleep or kept in a table and saves battery according to the needs."
