Samsung Galaxy Note 2 owners, unlike Galaxy S3 fans, have been able to enjoy Google Now and Project Butter thanks to Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean for some time now. It looks like things will be getting better for phablet fans as Android 4.1.2 for the Galaxy Note 2 is now available for download.
The firmware, listed on Samsung Updates as build N7105XXDLK7, will only work for the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 LTE version model GT-N7105. The update will not work for the 3G Galaxy Note 2.
The update was grabbed "as is" from Samsung servers, according to Samsung Updates.
The upgrade still hasn't been released OTA, although reports indicate that Samsung might start rolling out Android 4.1.2 sometime in December. Once it does, it will still take some time for everyone to receive the upgrade, since OTA updates tend to get pushed out in batches.
Firmware N7105XXDLK7 seems carry Vodafone Australia branding, but AndroidCentral states that as long as the Galaxy Note 2 is model GT-N7105, it should work fine.
Android 4.1.2 isn't a huge step forward from Android 4.1.1, but does introduce minor tweaks such as security patches and bug fixes.
A previous report indicated that Samsung is already working on Android 4.2 for both the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3. Samsung is expected to release the updates sometime in Q1 2013. Android 4.2 introduces more features such as Photo Sphere and an improved Google Now.
