Huawei is the company behind the other Google Nexus 2015 variant, the Google Nexus 6P, which has unfortunately hit a snag following shipping delays.
Google recently sent out emails to buyers claiming that they may underestimated the demand for the much-awaited 5.7-inch device, leading them to push shipping dates to the second week of November. To somehow appease customers who have already placed their orders, Google has issued a $25 refund on certain variants ordered.
Ironically, Huawei is reportedly all set to launch its own flagship device in the Huawei Mate 8. The word around is that the 6-inch flagship device could be out as early as Nov. 5, which is just a couple of days from now.
If true, the Huawei Mate 8 could very well debut ahead of the Google Nexus 6P which incidentally comes from them as well.
Could the Huawei Mate 8 be an alternative to look into? Here are its specs:
The Mate 8 will feature a 6-inch Quad HD display (2560x1440 resolution), an in-house HiSilicon Kirin 950 chipset, four Cortex A72 cores (clocked at 2.4 GHz) and four A53 cores, a Mali T-880 GPU, 3 GB/ 4 GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 32 GB/ 64 GB internal memory, a 21 MP main camera, a 5 MP/ 8 MP front-facing camera and a 4,000 mAh battery to provide the necessary power for the said Huawei flagship.
The Huawei Mate 8 may also come with the much talked about Force Touch feature. With regards to the OS, it will most likely be equipped with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box.
With regards to the price range of the Huawei Mate 8, the 32GB version is estimated to carry a possible SRP of $520 while the 64GB variant could be priced for about $610.
The detailed specs alone make it a device worth checking as Huawei tries to hold up its own to give Apple and Google some competition, particularly the iPhone 6S Plus and the Google Nexus 6P.
Brand awareness aside, there is a chance that the Huawei Mate 8 could gain some attention. But will it be enough to lure customers who have been glued to the the latest devices from Apple?
How about the Google Nexus 6P? Could the Huawei Mate 8 give it some competition as well? Considering that the device does offers impressive features highlighted by a bigger battery, it just might.
In a way and if the Huawei Mate 8 does come out ahead of the Google Nexus 6P, such does come a bit odd. While both are different variants on Huawei’s end, seeing another device come ahead of a much anticipated one does bring up some questions in mind like internal prioritization and distribution of resources.
But then again, the demand was unforeseeable and Huawei does need to look at other models that they can offer to the market.
