There are rumors that the Huawei Mate 8 will officially launch on Nov. 5, 2015 at a company event. The smartphone is said to be powered by Huawei’s very own Kirin 950 chipset.
Phone Arena reported that an invitation from Huawei recently surfaced on the Chinese social media site Weibo, revealing that the company will have an event on Nov. 5. The invitation included an image of a Kirin chipset with some art that appeared much like circuitry. The date was included in the invitation as well, thus sparking rumors that the upcoming Huawei Mate 8 smartphone model will debut the homegrown Kirin 950 processor.
The Kirin 950 chipset reportedly includes four Cortex-A72 cores, each having a maximum clock speed of 2.4GHz, as well as four Cortex-A53 cores. The Huawei-developed chip is built by TSMC using its 16nm FinFET process and even scored better than the powerful Exynos 7420 on Geekbench, which is commonly used on Samsung flagship models. The Exynos 7420 scored 1486 for the single-core test and 4970 for the multi-core test, while the Kirin 950 chipset scored 1909 for the single-core test and then 6096 for the multi-core test. The Exynos 7420 is currently being used in the Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Samsung Galaxy Note 5 models.
GSM Arena revealed that the Mate 8 is also said to feature a Mali T-880 GPU, while the chip will support 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and Cat. 10 LTE. The phone is also said to include a 6-inch display with a 1440x2560 QHD resolution, 3GB/4GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB of internal memory, a 21-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel or 8-megapixel front shooter. There are also rumors that the handset may feature up to a 42-megapixel camera. The device is said to have a powerful 4000mAh battery, at least. The Mate 8 may also feature Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection, Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system, and various connective capabilities.
If the invitation is genuine, the Huawei Mate 8 with Kirin 950 processor may be introduced on Nov. 5, and the official release date may happen in late November or in early December 2015. The smartphone model that will be powered by 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory may retail at $520, while the model with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage may be priced at $610. The available colors include Obsidian black, Amber gold and Moonlight silver.
More updates and details on the Huawei Mate 8 and Kirin 950 chipset are expected soon.
