Motorola and Verizon recently introduced the new Droid Turbo 2 smartphone model at a press event in New York City. The smartphone boasts of being the first in the world to have a shatterproof display.

Android Pit reported that the Motorola Droid Turbo 2 has a number of rugged features, making it among the toughest handsets ever today. The device features a 5.4-inch AMOLEDQuad HD display with a resolution of 2560x1440 and “Moto ShatterShield” technology and a dual touch layer that makes it impossible to shatter. CNN posted a video to test the shatterproof screen and found quite impressive results.

The Turbo 2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and a 3760mAh battery, which can reportedly run for as long as 48 hours. The turbocharger provides users with 13 more hours of battery life after charging for only 15 minutes. It also has 32GB or 64GB of internal memory with microSD card support and 3GB of RAM. The Droid Turbo 2 features 4K video recording, a 21-megapixel rear shooter and a 5-megapixel front camera.

Moto Maker lets users customize the appearance of the Droid Turbo 2. Phone Arena mentioned that the Moto Maker options for the device will include over 1,000 combinations. The phone will be available in at least six colors – black, white, gray, blue, brown and red.

Engadget also tested the shatterproof body of the Turbo 2. The handset will remain unscathed when dropped from a pocket and after hitting hard asphalt. The smartphone was built to withstand regular drops and scratches, but users should not expect it to stay the same if it falls off a building or if a car wheel rolls over it.

Based on the same Engadget report, there are various Amazon apps, nine Verizon apps and four games preinstalled on the Turbo 2. The device runs on the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box with a few Motorola widgets. It is expected to have the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update in the coming weeks. The phone also included a number of features that was appreciable on the Motorola Pure Edition. The Turbo 2 included several big upgrades compared to the Android Turbo, which released in October 2014. The latter featured a 5.2-inch screen, 32GB of internal memory and Android 4.4 KitKat.

The Motorola Droid Turbo 2 will officially release on Oct. 29, 2015. It will have a starting retail price of $624 up to $720 off contract. More updates and details on the new phone are expected soon.
